James V. Morgia spoke about the Battle for Beho, Belgium where he was the commanding officer during the Battle of the Bulge in January 1945. For his efforts during that battle, Jim Morgia was awarded the Siver Star, the third highest award for valor during U.S. combat in wartime.
Jim’s platoon was able to hole up in the basement of a farmhouse with a German family, according to Morgia’s daughter Jeanine Morgia Sansone. On a visit to Beho, Belgium in 2011, Morgia was able to find the same farmhouse during a major snowstorm, said Sansone, who said Morgia astounded his German tour guides with his memory of the location guided by landmarks.
Jim Morgia, now 90, raised five children in Stratford and worked at Sikorsky Aircraft as a chemical engineer for decades until his retirement in the eighties. He has written self-help books, takes his own advice for living healthy and has been actively auditioning to be on The X-Factor and America’s Got Talent as recently as last February.
